The Haberfield Association has been a major influence in the community since its inception. Here are a few of its recent achievements.
- The Association was heavily involved
when the cable carriers Foxtel and Optus were installing overhead cabling
in other suburbs.
The Association conducted a successful campaign to ensure that no
overhead cable were installed in the suburb.
- Ashfield Council raised the prospect of dual occupancy in Haberfield.
The association has always opposed it.
The Association made submissions as a whole, as well as individually,
to Ashfield Council.
Because of these submissions, Council agreed not
to permit dual occupancy in Haberfield.
- Australia Post planned to close the historic post office building.
The work of the Haberfield Association ensured that it stayed as a post office
and that its integrity was preserved.
- Along major bus routes, the Association lobbied the council to install bus shelters and plant trees to allow shade for people waiting for buses.
- Walk'N'Talk tour for Heritage Week 1997.
This was a tour of the Haberfield suburb explaining its heritage significance.
