OUTLINE
This road map defines the steps followed in setting strategic direction.
The process centers on designing systems that provide specific advantages
and gains by introducing communication technologies.
The design begins by identifying the communities in the system.
The design must specify how each of these communities will benefit
from the new system.
The steps are:
-
Step 1 - Identify the stakeholders, their views and messages between them.
-
Step 2 - Set strategic directions for electronic commerce.
-
Step 3 - List the business objectives to realize the strategic directions.
-
Step 4 - Identify the business activities that make up each process. Define
potential process gains that can be achieved by improving the work practices
in each activity. A rich picture is often developed here showing the communities
that participate in each activity.
-
Step 5 - Develop alternate conceptual solutions. The chosen conceptual
solution should clearly describe how it will realize the process gains
defined in step 2. The outcome are a set of projects and the conceptual
solutions define the project goals.
NOTE: A distinction is made here between activity and work practice. An
activity defines what is being done. A work practice is how thw work is
done.
